It’s all systems go as Citam prepares to usher in new bishop

Rev Calisto Odede will be consecrated and installed as the head of the church on December 5

It is now official: Rev Calisto Odede will be consecrated and installed as the new presiding bishop of Christ is the Answer Ministries (Citam) on December 5, ending months of waiting occasioned by Covid-19 disruptions.

Through its website, the church announced that the three-hour event would be streamed live on Hope TV, Hope FM, and Citam Church online platforms.

Citam’s Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) ratified Odede, 57, as Bishop David Oginde’s successor on October 17 in a ceremony that was conducted virtually via Zoom.

Contacted for comment, Citam Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager Rogers Wambua said the December event would be hybrid – meaning only invited guests, including Kenya’s top political, corporate and church leaders as well as Citam’s leadership would have access to the Karen sanctuary, which is the venue for the ceremony. Church members, friends, well-wishers and other interested individuals, will watch the event via online platforms or on television.

“It has been a long wait but we thank God that finally the bishop-elect is set to take over the mantle of leadership on December 5. The pandemic disrupted our earlier plans but couldn’t stop the event from being held this year. We are optimistic everything will go well,” Wambua said.

With the consecration, Odede becomes the third presiding bishop of Citam after Bonifes Adoyo and Oginde. Once installed, he will be the chief executive officer of the giant Pentecostal ministry and preside over all church affairs, including chairing the ADC, the Deacon Board, the Council of Elders and the Fellowship of Elders. He will also be the church spokesman and representative at national and international forums.
